Guillermo "Bill" Vidal became the the first immigrant to become a mayor of a major American city. He was a child when he was airlifted from his home in Cuba after the failed Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961 and was mistakenly placed in an orphanage in Pueblo, Colorado. It took years before being reunited with his parents.
